HIMCR #78 - Freestyle Baby!

For our last challenge of 2012 you get to choose!  Lets see what you love and where your talents lie :) Its a freestyle challenge so use any supplies you want to create anything you want!

This week I finished a small mixed media canvas I've been planning for awhile.  It of course took on a life of its own when I actually got started.

To begin I used an old sewing pattern.  I tore a piece slightly larger than my canvas then glued it down letting it bunch and gather to create dimension.  After it dried (a few weeks later when I got back to it!) I painted the background a shade of blue and then looked at it some more and realized the pattern formed what looked like a tree trunk to me so off I went with it!

I sprayed the background with some shimmery mist made with the Create-a-Shade paint from Close to My Heart.  This stuff is fabulous!  You use the spray pen with a little water, a few drops of the paint and any re-inker ink to make your own glimmer mist.  I love it! (if  you'd like these fun tools for your very own click on the link for each and you can order them from my website!)

Once that all dried I used some craft white stamp ink from Stampin Up and a sponge to dab some white along the top and sides for 'clouds'. I used brown paint to define the tree branches and some green for grass.  I also used a grass stamp with two different shades of green ink to stamp over the paint when it dried.  Next I cut the leaves, ran them through my Xyron and then grouped them on the tree.

I found this great sentiment in the Fall for You kit from Unity Stamp Co. It reads "laugh with your eyes hug with your soul and smile with your heart".  Using some more paint I painted the stamp and applied it to the canvas.  I really like how this came out and now I need to figure out where and how to display it!

Don't forget to head over to Hiding in My Craft Room to link us up with your creations!

Supplies used: Making Memories paints, create a shade paint from Close to My Heart, Cosmo Cricket butterfly stickers, Unity Stamp Co - sentiment, various green papers I had in my stash cut from the Plantin Schoolbook with my Cricut.

HIMCR #77 - Anything but Christmas!

Thanks for joining me this week!  This week's challenge at Hiding in My Craft Room is Anything but Christmas!  So link us up!

I picked some pictures I took on a recent trip to Maryland.  My cousins moved into the townhouse just a few up from the house I grew up in so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take some pictures!  I've been busy rearranging some things in my craft room and found several fun embellishments I just had to use!  I also pulled out my old Heidi Swapp idea book to be inspired.  This two pager is done 9x9 so it can go in a personal album I have been working ever so slowly on!

I have a ton of old Heidi Swapp embellies like flowers, journal spots and acetate stickers.  They matched this scrap of paper I also found and just had to use.  Throw in some Cosmo Cricket butterflies, washi tape, and some random stickers (letters and phrase) and voila!  I also finally procured a sewing machine so I can sew on layouts again.  Yay!

Thanks for looking and don't forget to head over to Hiding in my Craft Room to link us up.  We love to see what you create!

HIMCR #76 - Go Digital

It is time to try a new technique at Hiding in My Craft Room.  This week we are challenging you to go digital!!  I haven't done very much digi work and frankly it intimidates me!  We have a great sponsor at Template Dreams. She provided us with several different digital kits so make sure you check out all the great creations our design team has concocted!  Trish has also generously donated a $5 gift certificate to her store for one lucky crafter so make sure you link up your project on the HIMCR post to be entered to win!

What I've been working on

My daughter is getting married on Saturday!  Eeek!  I've been busy making various tags and things for the wedding - including some centerpieces that I will share when I get them done!  I thought I'd share a quick picture of the tags I just finished today.

I printed off the lemonade graphic from marryyoume.com but the other two graphics I created using various digital papers and elements I have found over the last year or so.  I cut the backgrounds out of kraft cardstock using the Cricut Artiste collection.  The cards tag will be going on the cool birdcage I found at Home Goods to use for cards and then to put up in my kitchen above the cabinets after the wedding!  I used the Cricut Artiste to cut all the elements.  You can't see it well but I also made up a mist with the CTMH create-a-shade pearl paint and some grey flannel ink in their spritzer.  It looks cool.  Eventually I'll add a ribbon and bow but that will be after I figure out how I'm attaching it to the cage.  I'll post pictures from the actual reception next week!

Please excuse the shadows.  The lighting in my office isn't great.

Basic Grey goodness!

Playing along over at Paper Issues with their Basic Grey challenge!  I dug deep into my stash of papers and pulled out one of the last remaining Basic Grey cardstock papers I have hidden ;)  I cut the card base out of Orange Cream in their Aged & Confused Sublime Collection using the Close to My Heart Artiste cartridge for my cricut.  I then added some grey washi tape and two die cuts from the Artiste cartridge.  I embossed the Mr&Mrs and made it sparkle.  I used a swirly stamp from Technique Tuesday on the couple and on the envelope (also cut from Artiste).  I really love this new Cricut cartridge!!  Thanks for looking!

HIMCR #75 - Super Scraps Saturday!

Welcome to Super Scraps Saturday at Hiding in my Craft Room!  The challenge is to dig into that scraps pile and use some up on a new creation!

One of the great things about moving is finding stuff you didn't remember you had!  This is true with my scraps too - except for the cardstock base my layout was created using scraps of paper I have had for ages!  They were in a plastic folder that I completely forgot about!

I received my Cricut Artiste bundle from Close to My Heart this week and had to use it right away!  I cut the heart, scalloped background and 'Love' from that cartridge.  I love it already!  I have to admit I bought it just to get the Eiffel Tower shape!

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to go link your creation at Hiding in My Craft Room!

Papers - American Crafts and Piggy Tales

Its Hiding in my Craft Room Saturday! - HIMCR #74

The challenge this week is to use blue and white.  Blue is one of my favorite colors and I love all the different shades!  I chose some paper from Close to My Heart - it looks a little more green in this picture but I promise its a light teal blue!

I used a card sketch from Page Maps - they are my go to source for great sketch inspiration!  I pulled out some flowers and a brad that I have had for-eh-ver and the paper came from my scraps basket.  The scallop punch on the edges is from Stampin Up and the sentiment came from who knows where!  I really need to use up some of this stuff around here!

Thanks for looking and be sure to leave your creation linked on the post over at Hiding in My Craft Room so you can be entered for this week's prize courtesy of

HIMCR #73 - Christmas Themed

Are you ready for the holidays?  I am in the midst of getting ready for a wedding and haven't given much thought to Christmas yet!  This challenge helped get that ball rolling for me.  I've always intended to make Christmas cards and send them out.  I don't do so badly on the make part - I have several different style cards I've made over the last few years.  But I am really bad on getting them sent out!!  I will have to pull together what I have and make it a goal to get them mailed this year :)

For this challenge though I came across an image that I had stamped about 2 years ago but never did anything with!  So I decided to spruce it up for this week's challenge.  I used some embossing powders , Kiwi Kiss and Regal Rose ink from Stampin Up and the sentiment came from Close to My Heart.  I also added some red stickles!  So although the image itself was already done I did design and finish the card this week!

Don't forget to head over to Hiding in My Craft Room and link us up with your Christmas themed creations!!

Happy Crafting!

Winter Play

I really liked this sketch over at Little Red Scrapbook:

But when I set about creating my layout the photo I wanted to use had some background that I didn't want to lose so I didn't actually cut my photo into circles.  I do admit it intimidates me.  I may give this sketch a whirl again and actually cut photos *gasp* but we will see!  Because this is going in one of my personal albums I made the size 9x9.  I really like using this size!

I dug out my Pink Paislee Snow Days goodies.  Living in Arizona I don't have much by the way of snow pictures but I liked them for this page!  Pretty much everything but the washi tape and cardstock came from Pink Paislee!  Thanks for looking!

Growing in Unity with Unity Stamp Co.

Last day - Growing in Unity

I have really enjoyed sharing my Unity Stamp Co. creations with you!  For my last day I am sharing another layout.  Since it had been awhile I decided to make a 9x9 layout and keep it simple.  I used the itty-bitty Bubble Gum Tree stamp and paper pieced in the lower corner then found this quote I have had forever it seems.  I have no idea where I got it - it was just hiding out in my stash!

Don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win 2 itty-bitty stamps from Unity Stamp Co!  I will be announcing the winner on Monday so don't forget to check back!  Thanks for joining me this week!

I was given the lovely Enchanted Dreams stamp to work with.  It is an intricate stamp and I have to say I really enjoyed working with it.  I broke out my watercolor pencils and spent an afternoon happily coloring and glitz-ing this sweet girl and fairies.

I used some silver glitter glaze to make the wings shimmery and tried to get a close up of the wings so you could see how cool they turned out.

I really enjoyed working with this stamp and a huge thanks to  The Scrapbook Stamp Society for providing us with the images to use!

Hoo Loves Ya Baby? - Growing in Unity

Welcome back for the next installment of Growing in Unity this week!  Today's card is a masculine one.  Having a husband, two boys, a father and 3 brothers I tend to need masculine cards often!  I chose to use Owl Always Love You  today.  I love the owls!  I think Unity Stamp Co. was the leader in the owl trend because this is one of the first kits I bought!

The owls are stamped with Chocolate and Barn Red ink from Close to My Heart with the branch and sentiment in Chocolate and Baja Breeze from Stampin' Up.  For the background I used some Coordinations paper I had left over from another project and two of the words from Sentiments O'Simple stamped in Whisper White from Stampin' Up. The size of the card is a bit bigger than normal :)  I cut the paper at 7 inches wide x 8 inches tall to fold down into a 7x4 card.  I like to mix it up once in awhile!

Thanks for visiting today and be sure to leave a comment on any of the Unity Stamp Co. posts I've made this week to be entered into a drawing for 2 itty-bitty stamps of your choice from Unity Stamp Co.!

Sweet Stuff Card - Growing in Unity

Good Morning!  Today I wanted to share another card I made using stamps from Mix Up of Cuteness. There are a lot of great images in this set and I chose three sweet treats coloring them with a blender pen and ink from CTMH and SU.  The sentiment is also from Unity.  A few years ago they were selling a grab bag of images and it came in that.  I added a little washi tape as my background and two bling jewels from Bo Bunny. Thanks for looking today and don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win 2 itty-bitty stamps!!

***This just in!  It's Brown Bag Thursday at Unity!  Get a Grab Bag of 15 random stamps for only $9 using code 50THANKS. I have gotten this in the past and ended up with a great mix of stamps!

My Nana - Growing in Unity

Welcome!  I'm so glad you are joining me this week as I feature fantabulous stamps from Unity Stamp Co. Today I have a layout to share with you.  I am slowly making my way through pictures of my childhood and came across this one of me with my Nana and her dog Fifi from July of 1984.

I love these trees from  Tiny Giggle Grove but for a layout I wanted them a bit bigger.  Fortunately they are available individually in the slightly larger size- Hackle Berry PointShade Tree, and Shurberry Tree.  I thought these papers from Anna Griffin would be perfect.  After stamping them on the pattern paper I cut out just the branches sections and then stamped the trees directly on my cardstock, adhering my cut out branch sections.  I also used some stickers from Simple Stories to create my banner and the letter stickers came from Jillibean Soup.

Thanks for looking and don't forget to leave a comment!  At the end of the week I will be drawing a winner from all the comments this week to win their own choice of 2 itty-bitty stamps from Unity Stamp Co.!

Growing in Unity with Unity Stamp Co.

This week I am fortunate to be contributing as the guest designer for Growing In Unity on the Unity Stamp Co. blog.  I found Unity Stamps several years ago and I absolutely LOVE them!  They are high quality red rubber stamps and their designs are simply fantabulous!

For today's project I created a card.  There are so many great Unity stamps I had trouble deciding which one to start with and I finally settled on one of my favorite kits - Be Owl Mine. I adore the cute little owl and the darling frame but decided on the sweet flowers and sentiment.  I used ink from Close to My Heart in Petal and Barn Red with Purely Pomegranate and Certainly Celery from Stampin' Up.  The background paper is from K&Co.

Be sure to leave me a comment - at the end of the week I will be drawing a winner from all the comments to receive their choice of two itty-bitty stamps from Unity Stamp Co.!  Thanks for joining me this week as I share the Unity Love!

Congratulations - a baby card

One of the girls I worked with at church as a youth is all grown up, married and having a baby!  I am excited to go to her baby shower this afternoon and needed a card.  I pulled out an old stamp from Stampin' Up's Brides and Babies for the main image and used the sentiment from Stampin Up's A Word For You.  I used one of my favorite techniques - by placing a piece of tape over the part of the sentiment I don't want to use prior to inking the stamp then removing the tape I get only the part I want!  Ink colors include: Stampin Up - So Saffron and Certainly Celery; Close to My Heart - Chocolate, Buttercup and Lagoon; Stazon in Black.  I used Bazzil cardstock for the circles and some American Crafts ribbon from my stash. My design was inspired by the challenge over at SkippingStonesDesign.com Thanks for looking!

It's Super Scraps Saturday at HIMCR!

For this two pager I used a sketch I found at Scrapbook Challenges.  I love their sketches!  I used scraps of the Star Wars papers I used on a previous layout to create this two pager capturing the memory of my youngest participating in the Jedi Training Academy at Disneyland.  We were lucky enough to get to go on his 9th birthday and they chose him for this training.  It was the highlight of his day for sure!  Thanks for looking and be sure to head over to Hiding in My Craft Room and link us up with your creation made from scraps!

HIMCR #70 - 3 Favorite Colors

This week's challenge is to use our three favorite colors.  I love color so its really hard for me to choose!!  I decided on my two most favorite - red and teal and then tossed in a little cream for good measure.  We were blessed to be given digi stamps this week from the Scrapbook Stamp Society to use and I have to say I love my bride by Sherri Baldy!  She was a lot of fun to work with! If you'd like to check out the Scrapbook Stamp Society Challenge Blog head over and tell them we sent you! Make sure you head over to Hiding in My Craft Room to upload your image and play along with us!!

I used paper from Pink Paislee as my base and Bazzill cardstock for the flowers. The sentiment is from Close to My Heart.  Ink colors include:
Close to my Heart: Slate, Chocolate, Sorbet, Tulip, Lagoon
Stampin' Up: Riding Hood Red
Colorbox: Amber Clay
I cut the flowers using my Art Philosophy cartridge out of cardstock and then added bling jewels to create the flourishes and the centers of the flowers.  I used some stickles to add bling for the jewelry on the bride and you can't really see it but I used Stampin Up Crystal Effects to give a glossy raised look to the flowers.

Thanks for looking!!

CAS[E] Sketch #4

CAS(E) This Sketch is a new clean and simple card challenge blog that I am enjoying.  Here is what I created from this week's sketch:

I used a stamp from Unity Stamp Co. and stamped the sentiment in Hollyhock ink from Close to My Heart by using tape to mask the turtles.  I then restamped the image onto another piece of white paper using CTMH's new ink color Slate.  I then watercolored the turtles using Stampin' Up inks in Certainly Celery, Kiwi Kiss and Regal Rose.

After fussy cutting them I adhered them to the card and added some Stampin' Up Clear Effects to the pink on the turtles.  I finished it with a clean black line around the edge of the card.

Head on over to their blog and play along!

Disney Blog Hop!

Welcome to the First Annual Blog Hop for...
  Rett Syndrome Awareness
Your first stop should have been at Robin Lane's Blog, if you did not start there please go back to the beginning...
What is Rett Syndrome? Rett Syndrome is a devastating neurologic developmental disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls. It is usually caused by a mutation of the MECP2 gene on the X chromosome. Rett Syndrome is found in all racial and ethnic groups throughout the world, and in every socioeconomic class. Rett Syndrome affects 1 in 15,000 female births.

Early developmental milestones appear normal, but between 6-18 months of age, there is a delay or regression in development, particularly affecting speech, hand skills and coordination. A hallmark of Rett Syndrome is the repetitive hand movements that may include seizures, irregular breathing, swallowing difficulties, and curvature of the spine. Many individuals with Rett Syndrome live well into adulthood.
There is currently no cure.
For this hop I finally dug into my Disneyland pictures from last year. I used a sketch from ScrapbookChallenges.com as my inspiration!

HIMCR #69 - Thankful

This weeks challenge at Hiding in my Craft Room is to create something with the theme of Thankful or Thanksgiving.  I decided to dig through my ever growing pile of photos and found these taken at Thanksgiving in 2006.  My mom is gone now so putting this memory to paper is bittersweet.  This week we were honored to be given a digital stamp from Creative Bug on the Loose.  The little girl is so darling!  Thanks for looking!

Supplies: Pink & Orange Floral paper from Recollections, polka dot paper from The Girls Paperie by Advantus, misc. ribbon, letters and tag cut from Art Philosophy by Close to My Heart, letters stamped with Slate ink from Close to My Heart and Technique Tuesday stamp, digital stamp from Creative Bug on the Loose colored with Close to my Heart watercolor pencils.

Making your weekend scrappy plans?

Follow along with a Disney Blog Hop for Rett Syndrome Awareness.  Join me this weekend to learn more about this disease and see some great scrappy inspiration!

Playing along with Paper Issues

The challenge over at Paper Issues is centered around the theme "Believe in yourself" honoring Breast Cancer awareness.  My mom passed 2 years ago from breast cancer so this is near and dear to my heart.  Here is the card I created.  I started with a specific design in mind but it kinda morphed on its own into this:

I used a tag from Pink Paislee Snow Days cut in half, a chipboard sticker from Fancy Pants, jewels from Bo Bunny, starburst stickers and text sticker from Cosmo Cricket and ink from VersaMagic.  Thanks for looking!

Its time for another Saturday challenge at Hiding in my Craft Room!  This week your challenge is to use die cuts.  Jump over to Laurie's blog to see the full challenge and submit your entry for her sweet prize!  Here is the creation I made.  I used my Cricut to cut out the cupcake and banner from the Close to My Heart Art Philosophy cartridge.  I LOVE this cartridge and use it constantly.  It is the reason I bought a Cricut again!!  I added some stickles and created the swirls to look like frosting.  The stamps are also from Close to My Heart.  (sorry for the poor lighting, I am still working on finding the best photo spot at my new house!)

It's Super Scraps Saturday at Hiding in My Craft Room!

Usually I have tons of scraps laying around but having moved this past summer and having my scrappy stuff in storage for 4 months I don't have as many as I would like.  However I did have some wings that I cut for an album I never completed and they were perfect to go with this picture my son brought home from school at the end of the year.

The background paper is Reminisce from Michael's and the ephemera are bits and pieces from things that have been sitting in my stash For-e-ver! The frame is Heidi Swapp, the sticker letters are Jillibean Soup, chipboard stickers are Bo Bunny, rubons are American Crafts and the journal spot is Jenni Bowlin.  The metal word 'Inspire' is unknown.  It was nice to pull them out and use some of them!  Be sure to visit Hiding in My Craft Room to link up your creation using scraps for HIMCR #67!  Your entry earns you a chance at the sweet prize Laurie has for this month's challenges!

Family

Today I used products from the Close to My Heart Avonlea Scrapbook Kit.  I really love the soft tones in these papers and coordinating fabric stickers.  It helps the layout come together smoothly and easily to have coordinating products.  They were perfect to take to a little scrappy get together at a friends house without having to haul a whole bunch of products!  Thanks for looking!

a couple of cards

The color challenge at Hiding in my Craft Room is pink, red and grey. I like how the colors came together in my first card. The second card is just using up some scraps sitting on my table!
